Another Garage Sale and Digital Files

August 6th, 2012 at 04:58 am

So this weekend my friend had her yard sale. Our family loves to hang out her family anyway, so we took most of our extras to her house. This was definitely a "get rid of it" kind of sale. She made about $200 and I made exactly $100.50! Which was not bad at all. And more importantly, that stuff is gone. When it was all over, I pulled out all the trendy/high quality/brand name clothing from the pile, and I will take it to a consignment store tomorrow. And then we hauled everything else to the thrift store and made a large donation. Done!

I found lots of VHS tapes and some home movies when I was cleaning out a week or two ago. And I just found out that Costco will do the transfer to a DVD. Their prices seem to be much better than places I found locally or online, so I think I will try it out with a few tapes this week. We've also been converting old photographs to digital files, and I'm so pleased. Those digital files take up a ton less space. Smile And yes, we've backed everything up on the hard drive and on flash drives. We can do the photos ourselves, but not the VHS since we no longer own a VCR. It's okay, because I don't think I would have time to do it right now, anyway.

Gas prices seem to have gone up again.

We had another busy and exhausting weekend, which will make for an interesting week. All good, just busy.

Are you scanning your photos with a traditional scanner or something more high end?

Great job on the sale! I, too, would take the high end stuff to consignment...similar to garage sale prices generally. And the rest is gone? Yipee!!

Great going on getting rid of your surplus!

Yes, more details on how you're doing the photos, please (long on my to-do list) Thanks!

We are using the printer that we got for a Swimbaby to take to college. It's advanced enough that when you lay out 6 photos on the glass, it automatically separates them into 6 separate files. It's a Canon and we got it at Fry's a couple of years ago. I think it was around $20 with all their crazy rebates. The catch is that the ink is expensive, but we've only refilled once since we got it. Since we don't want to print the pictures, it's perfect for that!

Terrific to join friend on yard sale, making $ 100. feels great for items no longer useful to you.

How long since you've looked at our VHS tapes? What criteria will you use to choose DVD transfer? If they're old TV programs or movies you don't see as 'Classic' is it worth the cost $20. ea. 2 VHS tapes? I see Walgreens likewise use YesVideo to process.

If you wish to transfer more than 8 tapes, I suggest contacting the middle/high school computer instructor who can likely facilitate using a computer literate student who likely has the program and wants to learn and earn.

I noticed the gas prices, too. They were much higher on my trip home from Minneapolis than they were on the way up.

The tapes are all of my children. Even though I haven't looked at them in a while, it is ABSOLUTELY worth it to me to make the transfer.

Thanks for info on the scanner - I have a Canon scanner/printer, so maybe I'm good to go. What photo file program do you use?

hmmm. I have some game tapes from when I was in college, and one from high school, I would like to get converted. I think I have 5 tapes. I didn't know Walgreens did that kind of thing!
